Orthodox Christian Beliefs

The Orthodox Church maintains the faith delivered by Christ to the Apostles and preserved unchanged through the centuries.

Orthodox Christianity represents the original Christian faith as established by Jesus Christ and His Apostles. We believe in the Holy Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - as one God in three persons. Our faith is grounded in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, guided by the teachings of the Ecumenical Councils and the Church Fathers.

The Nicene Creed

The fundamental statement of Orthodox Christian faith, proclaimed at the First and Second Ecumenical Councils.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made.

Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man.

He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life; who proceeds from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Core Orthodox Beliefs

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God, yet there is only one God. This mystery is central to our faith.

Incarnation

Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, united in one person. Through His incarnation, death, and resurrection, He offers salvation to all humanity.

Theosis

The ultimate goal of Christian life is theosis - becoming like God through His grace. We are called to participate in the divine nature while remaining fully human.

The Church

The Orthodox Church is the Body of Christ, maintaining apostolic succession and preserving the fullness of Christian faith through Scripture and Tradition.

The Seven Sacraments

Through the sacraments, we receive God's grace and participate in the divine life.

Baptism

Spiritual rebirth and entry into the Church

Chrismation

Receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit

Eucharist

Communion with Christ through His Body and Blood

Confession

Reconciliation and forgiveness of sins

Marriage

Blessing of the union between man and woman

Ordination

Calling to serve as clergy in the Church

Unction

Healing of body and soul through holy oil

Scripture and Tradition

Orthodox Christianity is founded upon both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. The Bible, interpreted within the context of the Church's living tradition, provides the foundation for our faith and practice.

Sacred Tradition includes the teachings of the Church Fathers, the decisions of the Ecumenical Councils, liturgical worship, iconography, and the continuous life of the Church guided by the Holy Spirit throughout the centuries.

"Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle." - 2 Thessalonians 2:15
